BMW and Green Mountain Energy Company on July 31 announced a partnership to offer drivers of the BMW ActiveE electric vehicle the opportunity to purchase either RECs, or load-following electric supply, from Green Mountain Energy.

ActiveE drivers may purchase from Green Mountain Energy, for $48, an amount of RECs equivalent to the estimated 10,000 kWh consumed by charging an ActiveE vehicle over the two-year lease term.

Additionally, customers in the New York City area (including ConEd and O&R) may also purchase their load following electric supply from Green Mountain Energy. Green Mountain Energy offers several residential plans for New York residential customers, but not a specific EV-rate (Green Mountain Energy does offer an EV-rate in Texas, which is not a test market for the BMW ActiveE).

The ActiveE is a limited production, demonstration electric vehicle offered to 700 customers in New York, New Jersey, greater Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Sacramento and Boston.
