Sweet Leaf Tea is observing Energy Awareness Month with a huge purchase of renewable energy credits for its Austin, Texas headquarters.

According to a news release issued Oct. 1, Sweet Leaf has purchased 1 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy credits from Green Mountain Energy Company. That amount will be enough to "offset the electricity required to operate Sweet Leaf's corporate headquarters and manufacture and bottle its line of 'Green' teas for one year," the statement said.

The purchase kicks of a Sweet Leaf-Green Mountain joint program called "Drink Green," which the companies said is meant to encourage environmentally friendly behavior among consumers.

The campaign invites participants to make a pledge to live greener, submit their contact information to win a prize in a sweepstakes, and pick up a reusable Sweet Leaf tote bag at participating retailers.
