Sr. Strategic Planning Analyst

Location: Austin, TX


Position Summary:

The Sr. Strategic Planning Analyst supports the Sr. Vice President in identifying and evaluating potential opportunities for company growth within the context of the company’s mission and corporate structure. This position also has a key role in managing internal strategic projects that involve cross-functional teams.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Business Case Creation - Assist with the creation of all phases of a business case (market analysis, value proposition, strategic fit, economic models and launch plan) to support a new initiative. Develop financial models in conjunction with internal finance department, create proposals and presentations. Present findings and recommendations to Management Team.
  • Monitoring – Continually monitor industry trends and strategic activities of competitors for all business units. Make recommendations to capitalize on relevant trends or competitive activity.
  • Research – Conduct and evaluate research to understand new growth opportunities, new geographic markets, competitors, patterns, etc. Perform due diligence on companies as required.
  • Analysis – Evaluate data to understand trends and analyze performance of business units. Share relevant analyses and make recommendations to business unit owners.
  • Implementation – Work with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of projects to support new corporate strategies.  Manage projects, timelines and resources. Make recommendations related to resource allocation.
  • Facilitation – work collaboratively with business unit leaders on annual and long range planning process as well as when units are faced with new challenges.  Facilitate business unit strategy sessions to develop concrete action plans. Provide support to implement action plans
  • Business Development – Support business development managers in execution of projects to facilitate key business partnerships. Attend critical business development meetings. Help to fill pipeline with strategic partnerships that will create significant value for the company.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 8-10 years experience in consulting, strategy, business development or general business
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the energy industry
  • Utility industry (electricity, water, gas, etc.) experience is also strongly preferred
  • MBA or similar graduate degree strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams to successfully complete projects
  • Superior problem solving, decision making and judgment skills
  • Superior verbal and written communications skills, including experience communicating at the executive level
  • Superior analytical skills
  • Proficiency with financial models
  • Flexible and adaptable to a rapidly changing, fast-paced business environment
  • Strong Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint) skills
